Exploring New Horizons

Performing halfway up a cliff at one of Ireland's most iconic locations, Hook Head Lighthouse, was an exhilarating experience that has left an indelible mark on my artistic journey. As part of the ISACS DIVE #3 event, I had the honour of improvising a viola score while surrounded by the breathtaking and raw beauty of the cliffs and the ocean below. The setting was as challenging as it was inspiring, creating an environment that demanded full immersion in the moment and in the music.

Collaborating with dancers Hannah Scully, Safire Hikari, and Charlotte Bruce, whose movements echoed the natural rhythms of the surroundings, added an extraordinary dimension to the performance. Their ability to adapt their choreography to the unpredictable outdoor elements was truly remarkable, and it pushed me to explore new depths in my improvisation. Together, we created a living, breathing piece of art that was deeply connected to the land and sea.

This performance was not just a personal milestone; it also sparked a new passion for site-specific performances. There’s something magical about bringing art to unconventional spaces, surprising audiences, and creating moments of unexpected beauty. Hook Head, with its rich history and stunning views, provided the perfect backdrop for this kind of artistic exploration. The lighthouse itself, a beacon of light for centuries, became a symbol of how art can illuminate even the most remote and rugged places.

Moving forward, I am more committed than ever to seeking out unique and challenging performance opportunities. There’s a powerful connection between art and place, and I believe that by bringing performances to unexpected locations, we can reach new audiences and create profound experiences that resonate on a deeply emotional level.

I’m excited about the future and the possibilities that lie ahead. There’s so much potential in site-specific performances, and I’m eager to continue exploring this path, finding new ways to surprise and move people through the power of live music and dance.

This is only the beginning, and I look forward to what comes next. The cliffs of Hook Head have set a new bar, and I’m thrilled to see where the journey takes us from here.
