Creation 21/22 Tyrone Guthrie Centre

A fantastic week spent with the Creation 21/22 artists, being thrown in the deep end yet again! We were put in groups and told at the end of 6 days we would be performing a piece of work to the rest of the group. Then we were in different groups for a “quick and dirty” collaboration with just a few hours to come up with a performance anywhere in the grounds of this magnificent house.

What resulted was the most remarkable evening of site specific pieces, I was completely stunned by everyone’s imagination and artistry, to pull such polished sequences out of nowhere in such a short space of time was just astounding. Elena Lalucat and myself paired together to perform a short piece in a narrow corridor, based on letting go and moving on.

For the long project, I was partnered with Chorographer Ali Clarke and Actor Alan Howley…here started a tough few days of being “in the trouble”… this was my first experience of literally not knowing what was going on and worse still, not knowing whether everyone else felt that too! In the end I asked the question and Alan and Ali thankfully said they felt the same, go with it, it’s part of the process.

After that ideas started to form and I was so proud of the final piece we created. It was pretty dark and moody but I had great fun exploring sound effects to create a tense atmosphere in the room.

All in all a very fulfilling week and I am very much looking forward to being reunited with everyone in Catalonia in April
