SEVN Tinahely Arts Centre recording day
Today I was very excited, not only as it was my first time visiting Tinahely Courthouse Arts Centre, but because I was getting to record the wonderful Deeds Not Words by Libby Croad. This is my first ever commission so I’m delighted to recorded it as part of my SEVN award and I am a so thrilled to be playing it in this building.
The piece is based on the suffragette movement and Tinahely is an amazing old courthouse, complete with underground cells. There was something quite poetic about performing this piece here. I was grateful to Denise McGrath for giving me a tour and the whole team there for being very welcoming and supportive of my endeavours!
As with all these SEVN recordings, these are not going to be the quality you would need to broadcast or create a cd, but it has been such an interesting experiment, discovering how different venues effect your playing, both in terms of acoustics and how the stature and history of a place can affect the way you perform a piece.
I will be posting soon with my final thoughts on the journey i have been on over the past year as part of my South East Venues Network Bursary.
